In the past couple of days i have been focusing on introducing the story more in the beginning of the video, in order to try to portray the narrative in more detail. Whilst doing this, I have also added one clip of intertextuality that i filmed previously. This is shown in the screenshot where the main boy is holding up the sign as that references Taylor Swift’s music video of ‘You Belong With Me’, the film Love Actually and also Bob Dylan’s music video. I hope to include some of my other intertextuality reference throughout once the main storyline is established. Another one of my main focuses was on adapting the video to fit the pace of the music, which also meant shortening some of the clips of the main boy in it lip-syncing. Also, whilst filming my footage I experimented with a range of different camera shots and so I tried my best to include a variety, for example Martha playing the yukele. Also, I changed the filter that is featured on the close up of Nancy who is the main girl, as I wanted to portray a retro effect, like an old camera for instance.

Process

 

I have now put most of my footage together through starting with a base of Ben (who is the singer and main boy) singing the whole song through, and from then i have made adaptations in order to help to start to tell a story, whilst also making it engaging and captivating to the audience.

After reviewing most of my footage, I then started roughly editing and putting the music video together, whilst getting used to the new software.

Third and final day of shooting

Intertextuality:

For my third and final shoot day I focused on intertextuality so that I could use either just one or all of the clips I obtained. I thought it was best to get at least 3 different bits of intertextuality so that I have a variety that I can choose from when putting together my music video. I believe that 2/3 were somewhat successful and I would be open to using them, these included intertextuality from 10 things I hate about you and ‘You belong with me’ by Taylor Swift. I believe that these would be useful to use as it links to the social and cultural context of the target audience.

 

Second shooting day

 

First Day of Shooting

 The first day was a struggle to plan, but once I got the schedule sorted and confirmed that definitely helped the process. It helped that because I had a lot of people taking part in the music video, the scheduling helped to organise it so they didn’t have to stand around waiting. At the start I found the process quite overwhelming as there was so much to think about all at once, but once I broke it down into more manageable pieces which helped me complete my shot list of clips for that day. Overall, it was a successful day and I feel like I completed and obtained everything I needed to at that stage and it made me feel positive about my future shooting days. It left me with a good starting point and hopefully most of the videos can be used throughout the music video.
